The Batman is the Eleventh Highest-Charting Film of 2022 by Film Critics (UPDATED)

The website criticstop10.com records the highest-charting films of every year by the top ten lists film critics listed them on. In addition to winning Rotten Tomatoes’ Golden Tomato Award for Best-Reviewed Comic Book Movie of 2022, Matt Reeves’ 2022 DC Comics film The Batman has been featured on 158 top ten lists by film critics in North America, with four number one rankings.

Similar to Rotten Tomatoes, CriticsTop10 includes a wider range of certified film critics than Metacritic, which also conducts similar annual charts.

Here is how The Batman ranks in the highest-charting DC Comics films according to critics.

1. The Dark Knight (2008): 297 top ten lists-78 number one rankings. #2 on 2008’s highest-listed films. (The Dark Knight is the second highest-listed film of 2008 behind Disney and Pixar’s WALL-E.)

2. The Batman (2022): 158 top ten lists-4 number one rankings. #11 on 2022’s highest-listed films.

3. Joker (2019): 153 top ten lists–8 number one rankings. #13 on 2019’s highest-listed films.

4. The Dark Knight Rises (2012): 147 top ten lists–11 number one rankings. #14 on 2012’s highest-listed films.

5. Wonder Woman (2017): 142 top ten lists–4 number one rankings. #15 on 2017’s highest-listed films.

6. Batman Begins (2005): 105 top ten lists–6 number one rankings. #13 on 2005’s highest-listed films.

7. Birds of Prey (2020): 49 top ten lists–3 number one rankings. #41 on 2020’s highest-listed films.

8. Superman (1978): 41 top ten lists–0 number one rankings. #8 on 1978’s highest-listed films.

9. Batman (1989): 39 top ten lists–0 number one rankings. #14 on 1989’s highest-listed films.

10. The Suicide Squad (2021): 37 top ten lists–0 number one rankings. #48 on 2021’s highest-listed films.

11. Watchmen (2009): 28 top ten lists–2 number one rankings. #40 on 2009’s highest-listed films.

12. Superman Returns (2006): 27 top ten lists–one number one ranking. #46 on 2006’s highest-listed films.

The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Wonder Woman, and Joker were all honored by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of their respective years.
